Colour Changing Fairground Lights

Colour-changing fairground cabochons for signs, rides and decorative displays — from simple plug-and-play auto-effect units to fully individually addressable pixel systems with complete creative control.

This collection covers three distinct types of RGB cabochon, each suited to a different level of control and complexity. Auto RGB units run built-in effects straight from the box with no controller required. RGB DMX-SPI cabochons use chain position to generate effects and integrate with standard DMX lighting systems via a signal decoder. Pixel cabochons offer full individual addressability — each unit can display any colour independently, at any time, via a compatible pixel controller.

Understanding the Three Types of RGB Cabochon

Choosing the right system comes down to how much control you need and how complex your installation is. Here's a plain-English breakdown of each type in this collection.

Auto RGB — No Controller Required

How it works – Each cabochon contains its own chip with pre-programmed colour sequences including fades, rainbow cycles and flashing patterns. Connect power and they run automatically.

Best for – Straightforward installations where dynamic colour is needed without programming complexity. Ideal for temporary displays, events and decorative signage.

Voltage & size – Available in 60mm (24V). Kits include a matched plug-in power supply.

RGB DMX-SPI — Position-Based Control

How it works – These cabochons run on SPI pixel data. Each unit in the chain behaves according to its position — the first cabochon always performs the first pixel in the sequence, the second performs the second, and so on. Multiple chains from the same controller output stay in perfect sync, with matching positions displaying identically across all chains.

Control options – Use with the LT-1809 DMX-SPI Signal Decoder for integration with DMX512 lighting systems, or the K8000 Pixel Controller for standalone programmed sequences.

Voltage & connectors – Moulded 4-pin male and female tails for daisy-chaining. No soldering required.

Pixel Cabochons — Individually Addressable

How it works – Full independent control of every single cabochon in the installation. Each unit can display any colour at any time regardless of its position in the chain — enabling complex animations, pixel mapping and fully custom effects.

Best for – Large-scale professional installations, pixel-mapped signage, and projects requiring complete creative flexibility.

Available sizes – 42mm (12V), 46mm (24V) and 60mm (24V). Choose based on your mounting hole size and voltage system.

Power Supplies & Controllers

MEAN WELL power supplies in 60W, 100W, 150W and 200W ratings are included in this collection to cover installations of all sizes. Always calculate your total cabochon wattage and add 20% headroom when selecting a PSU. For pixel and DMX-SPI systems, pair with a compatible controller — the compact Micro Pixel YCP suits smaller installations, while the K-8000C handles larger multi-zone programmable displays.
