How to Choose the Right LED Driver
Choosing the correct driver can feel confusing — here's what to consider:
- Voltage: Match your LED product. Most of our ranges (LED strip lights, Neon Flex, Fairground Lights) run on either 12V or 24V.
- Power (Watts): Add up the total watts of your LEDs, then select a driver with at least 20% headroom to avoid overloading.
- Location / IP Rating: IP20 for indoor, dry areas. IP65/IP67 for outdoor or damp spaces, offering water and dust protection.
- Dimming (Optional): If you want dimming, choose a dimmable driver that matches your control system: TRIAC, 0–10 V, or PWM/DMX.
Constant Voltage vs Constant Current
- Constant Voltage (CV): The most common type. Used for LED strips, Neon Flex, and Fairground lighting kits. Supplied in 12V or 24V.
- Constant Current (CC): Required only when the LED specifies a current (e.g. 350 mA, 700 mA). Typically used in specialist applications, not our standard ranges.

Are LED Drivers, PSUs, Power Supplies and Transformers the Same Thing?
These terms often get mixed up, but here's what they really mean:
- LED Driver – the catch-all name for the device that powers your LEDs.
- LED Power Supply (PSU): Usually the same as a constant voltage driver (12V or 24V), which is what most LED strips and Neon Flex need.
- LED Transformer: Strictly reduces AC voltage (e.g. 240V AC to 12V AC). LEDs need DC power, so a transformer on its own isn't enough.
What this means in practice: If you're buying for LED strips, signage, or Neon Flex, you want a constant-voltage LED driver / PSU. LEDs need DC (Direct Current) which is a steady flow of electricity in one direction. “Transformer” is often used in error — avoid it unless you're specifically dealing with AC systems.
