LED Neon Flex is a bendable, waterproof alternative to glass neon, available in many colours and profiles. One key advantage is that you can cut it to custom lengths for border lighting, accent runs or bespoke signs. This guide shows you how to cut Neon Flex safely and finish the ends for a professional, watertight result.

Why cut LED Neon Flex?

Made from flexible silicone and powered by efficient LEDs, Neon Flex is lighter, cheaper and greener than traditional glass tubes. Cutting lets you tailor strips to:

  • Border lighting
  • Accent lines
  • Custom signs and decorative shapes

After cutting, you can mount the strip with clips or adhesive sealant for a seamless neon effect.

Preparing to cut

Gather:

  • Sharp utility knife or box cutter
  • Tape measure
  • End caps and appropriate connectors
  • Soldering iron (for profiles without plug‑in connectors)

Measure the run and locate the factory cut marks—copper ovals on WeLoveLEDs Neon Flex. These occur every 10–500 mm depending on profile (most static colours are 25 mm or 50 mm).

Only cut at a marked point; cutting elsewhere will break the circuit. If marks are unclear, power the strip briefly to spot the slightly dim gaps between LED segments, then disconnect before cutting.

How to cut LED Neon Flex

  1. Disconnect the strip from power.
  2. Place it on a firm surface and make a clean, perpendicular cut at the chosen mark.
  3. Avoid bending or twisting while cutting.

Tips

  • Never cut while the strip is powered.
  • If the knife drags, change to a fresh blade for a cleaner edge.

After cutting

Seal the open end to keep the circuit safe and watertight:

  • Profiles with connectors – fit an end cap with silicone adhesive or heat‑shrink.
  • Profiles without connectors – trim back silicone to expose the copper pads, then solder supply wires (red = +, black = –). Cover with a power end cap and seal with silicone.

Let the joint cool completely before reconnecting power.
